Continuing our tiki theme, we're moving to Grog's. Back in the day, it was considered unmasculine for a man to order a fancy, girly style drink. Thanks to Don the Beachcomber, we were introduced to the Grog. This drink has his signature three rum minimum plus the infamous ice cone.
The hardest part about making this cocktail, is that damn ice cone. Now you can certainly order the kit via Cocktail Kingdom. Tiki drinks last for about 1 month in our house, so we make our own and keep extra clutter out of the cabinets. For the DIY version, start by folding a piece of wax paper into a cone shape and insert into a pilsner glass or any "V" shaped vessel. Make sure the edges of the paper poke over the glass. Keep in mind that the widest part of the wax paper cone (top) should be smaller than the glass you will be using. Next, throw some ice into a food processor and blitz until it looks like shaved ice. If it becomes too watery, drain the excess water and blitz in a little more ice. Place a straw, skewer or chopstick in the glass and PACK the shaved ice into your wax cone. Remove the skewer, then set your glass in the freezer for about 15 min for a quick set. After 15 min, carefully remove your wax mold from the glass and slowly unwrap the wax paper. Return your cone to the freezer and freeze for at least 2 hours. Store in plastic bags until ready to use.
I don't know about you but after that, I'm ready for a cocktail!
