His & Hers Cocktails - Elderflower Old-Fashioned & The Bitter Elder

We have officially hit the holiday season and the last month of 2021!  Where has the time gone?  December just snuck up out of nowhere and has left me scrambling at the last minute.  With the move, the wife and I decided to keep the holidays low key this year.  Only one tree is going up, decor will be at a minimum and outdoor lights are up in the air at the moment.  But that doesn't mean our Friday cocktails have to be plain and simple.

This week we are elevating two classic cocktails by adding just one extra ingredient, Elderflower liqueur.  Specifically, we're using St. Germain.  Made from the white flowers of the elderberry plant, this liqueur to slightly sweet, with tasting notes of pear, citrus and passionfruit and reminds me of honeysuckle.  When paired with an Old-Fashioned (no sugar cube needed) and essentially a riff on the Jasmine cocktail, St. Germain will add a subtle complexity to your cocktails that will impress your guests!

His Cocktail - Elderflower Old-Fashioned
2 1/2 oz bourbon
1/2 oz St. Germain
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
Lemon twist garnish

In a shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients and stir until chilled.  Strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube.  Garnish.

Her Cocktail - The Bitter Elder
1 1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz Campari
1/2 oz St. Germain
1/2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
Lemon twist garnish

In a shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients and stir until chilled.  Strain into a chilled coupe.  Garnish.

Happy drinking!
