His & Hers Cocktails - Kamikaze & Lemon Drop

His & Hers Cocktails - Kamikaze & Lemon Drop

Thanks to a recent house guest, it dawned on me that I have posted very few, if any, vodka cocktail recipes.  I don't know why.  I have nothing against vodka.  In fact, it used to be my go to liquor.  But I suppose, like everything in our lives, one thing will fall out of favor for another.  My apologizes to all of the vodka drinkers out there.  I will make it a point to add more recipes to the blog going forward.

That brings me to today's cocktails.  Now before I ruffle any feathers, I am well aware that the Kamikaze is technically a shot, not a cocktail.  But here's the thing, a shot is meant to be quickly poured and "shot" down the throat as quickly as possible.  The Kamikaze is made from 3 ingredients.  Do you really want to juice a lime then shake the ingredients for at least 20 seconds simply to throw it down the hatch?  I don't.  I want to set back, sip and enjoy my cocktail after the end of a long day.  So how do you turn a shot into a cocktail?  You double it.  Trust me, once doubled, it will live up to its name.

Our other offering is a simple lemon drop.  Same ingredients as the Kamikaze but we use lemon juice instead of lime and add some simple syrup (add as much or as little as you prefer.  The wife omitted, as usual).  The rim of this cocktail is also covered in a thin coating of sugar.  You can always rim just half of the glass if you find it to be too sweet. His Cocktail - Kamikaze
2 oz Vodka
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz orange liqueur (Grand Marnier)

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all the ingredients.  Shake until well chilled.  Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

Her Cocktail - Lemon Drop
1 1/2 oz Vodka
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz orange liqueur (Grand Marnier)
1/2 oz simple syrup, or to your liking
Sugar

Use your juiced lemon to wet the rim of an old-fashioned glass.  Dip the rim into sugar to coat and add ice.  In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the remaining ingredients.  Shake until well chilled.  Strain into your prepared glass.

Happy drinking!
