Mother's Day is right around the corner. Sure, you could still probably find a few open reservations at a fancy restaurant but consider how unappealing that is. You know the food will be subpar during the busy weekend. It will be crowded, loud and let's face it, COVID-19 is still an issue. No, I think this year treat your mom, grandmother and/or wife/girlfriend to either a home cooked meal (you cook, not her) or grab take out from her favorite local restaurant and enjoy the day at home. Better yet, maybe even a picnic at a local park!
I'm sure a lot of you are already planning on making mimosas. Please don't. They're insipid and a little outdated....especially if you're thinking of using bottled OJ. (Come on man! Even Ina Garten juices her own oranges. Man up!) What do you make instead? How about The St. Germain Spritz? The St. Germain will offer up a lightly sweet, floral and somewhat herbal note to the cocktail. Top with champagne (We like Roederer Estate Brut here for the price point and citrus flavor) and then top it off with soda water. It's a refreshing cocktail that will surely delight the women in your life!
The original recipe calls for 1 1/2 oz of St. Germain. Personally, the wife and I found this to be a little too sweet for our palates. I would recommend starting with 1/2 oz and slowly adding more depending on how sweet each recipient likes their drinks.
Don't forget to grab a bouquet of her favorite flowers and maybe another bottle of GOOD champagne. Best of luck gents and Happy Mother's Day!His & Hers Cocktails - St. Germain Spritz
