His & Hers Cocktails - Pimm's #1

His & Hers Cocktails - Pimm's #1

This is a busy week for any Anglophile.  For starters (and in our case), there's the Royal Ascot.  Think of it as the British version of the Kentucky Derby.  Except, instead of two days of horse racing, it's a week long event of racing with plenty of opportunity to view one of the royals and the pageantry that follows them.  Right after Ascot wraps up, it's on to Wimbledon, the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament.

What do these events have in common?  The Pimm's Cup!  For those who may not be familiar with Pimm's #1, it's a British, gin based spirit.  The flavor profile is made of botanical herbs, caramelized oranges and spices.  It was first created as a digestive aid for oysters, sent to British troops stationed throughout the Empire, served at Queen Victoria's lunches and eventually debuted at Wimbledon in 1971.

What ever event you plan on watching over the next few weeks, or if the summer heat and humidity is a tad bit stifling for your outdoor cocktail hour, grab a bottle of Pimm's and try one of the below recipes (or head over to their website for more cocktails).  Relatively low in AVB and quit refreshing, this British staple will become your new go to for any day drinking event.

His Cocktail - Classic Pimm's Cup

2 oz Pimm's #1
1/4 oz Fresh lemon juice
Ginger Ale (Fever Tree)
Thin cucumber slices & mint sprig for garnish

Using a vegetable peeler, peel a few thin slices of cucumber and lay them on the inside walls of your highball glass.  Add ice, Pimm's, and lemon juice.   Stir gently then top with ginger ale.  Garnish with a mint sprig.

Her Cocktail - The Pimmlet
1 oz Pimm's #1
1 oz Gin (Dry London Gin)
1 oz Fresh lime juice
Dash of simple syrup
Thin cucumber slice & mint sprig for garnish

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the Pimm's, gin, lime juice and a dash of simple syrup.  Shake until well chilled.  Strain into a Martini glass and garnish with cucumber and mint.

Happy Drinking!
