Is there anything more frightening than trying to go to sleep after watching a horror movie as your overzealous imagination runs rampant? You question every noise, every creek and every shadow. And when you finally drift off to sleep you quickly awaken from a nightmare. It was just a nightmare right? Jack Nicholson's performance in The Shining still sends chills down my spine to do this day. Let's not even discuss the woman in room 237 or the twins. The last Halloween cocktail is in honor of Jack, The Caretaker.
The Caretaker seems like the perfect drink Lloyd would serve Jack, in the Gold Room. A strong drink that should be appreciated and slowly slipped amongst friends or ghosts.
The Caretaker
1/2 oz Bourbon (Buffalo Trace)
1/2 oz Cognac (Pierre Ferrand)
1/4 oz Sweet Vermouth
1/4 oz Grand Marnier
3 dashes Orange Bitters
Splash fresh lemon juice
Lemon twist for garnish
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients except the garnish. Stir until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with a lemon twist.
As mentioned, this drink is strong! You can always add a little simple syrup or a splash of soda water to temper.
