While stores are advertising "Christmas in July," I'm secretly dreaming of the cool weather that comes with the winter holidays. There's nothing better then sitting out on the veranda, a crisp breeze in the air while sipping a good whisky. I can't control the weather but I can share a whisky tiki drink for those of you who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of cool weather.
My particular cocktail calls for falernum. It's a ginger, lime, almond syrup that's often used in tiki drinks. Before you run out to by a bottle, you can make a diy version at home, if you have orgeat syrup in your fridge. This link has 2 different versions for you to try. I went with version #2 minus the simple syrup.
His Cocktail - Iron Ranger (Raised by Wolves in San Diego)
2 oz bourbon
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz fresh pineapple juice
1/2 oz falernum
1/2 oz simple syrup (I omitted)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all the ingredients and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled hurricane glass.
Her Cocktail - Stiggins Fancy Pineapple Negroni
1 oz Plantation Stiggins Fancy Pineapple Rum
1 oz Campari
1 oz Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until chilled, about 30 sec. Strain into a chilled rocks glass filled with ice.
Happy drinking!
