The other evening I asked the wife what she might want for her Friday night cocktail. After a brief pause, she replied, "Gin Salty Dog. Tanqueray please." Easy enough I thought, until I reached the bar. My reply, "uh hun, we only have Hendricks." Thinking I was going to have to make a quick run to our local liquor store, she caught me completely by surprised when she called down to "sub the Tanq with vodka." And there you have it, another vodka cocktail (by accident).
When we first started with the His & Her's posts, I remember briefly commenting on how many drinks (like the Salty Dog) have interchangeable liquors. Having a few of these recipes in your back pocket really make entertaining a breeze. Keep your main liquors stocked and a handful of mixers and you can please any guest. His Cocktail - Pink Grapefruit Cocktail
3 1/2 oz fresh grapefruit juice (pink preferable)
2 oz vodka
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all the ingredients. Shake until well chilled. Strain into a coupe's glass.
Her Cocktail - Grapefruit Salty Dog
4-5 oz fresh grapefruit juice (pink preferable)
1 1/2 oz vodka
Squeeze fresh lime juice (optional)
Margarita Salt
Lime wedge garnish
Wet the rim of an old-fashioned glass, dip into margarita salt and add ice. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the remaining ingredients. Shake until chilled. Strain into prepared glass and garnish.
Happy drinking!
