The older we get, the less candy the wife and I consume.....until Easter rolls around. There is one particular candy that I swear is more addicting than any illegal substance on the street. The batches vary but if you happen to stumble onto a winning bag of Sweetart Jelly Beans, they'll pucker your mouth like you just ate a lemon but will make you want to eat another handful within minutes. As the name implies, they are sweet (some bags are too sweet) and they're tart and the quintessential Easter candy in our household (and the occasional Reese's peanut butter egg).
Today's cocktail is a liquid version of our beloved Sweetart Jelly Beans. The combination of grapefruit and lime juice mixed with orgeat mimics the sweet and tart profile that makes you want to take another sip. Now the original recipe called for 1/2 oz of simple syrup which we thought was overkill. It became cloyingly sweet. You could almost cut back slightly on the orgeat syrup and still find a nice sweet to tart ratio. His & Hers Cocktails - Spring Fling
2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
1/2 oz Fresh lime juice
1/2 oz Orgeat
6-8 Dashes of Peychaud's Bitters
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all the ingredients except the bitters. Shake until well chilled. Strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with bitters.
Happy Easter and happy drinking!
