His & Hers Cocktails - Tiki #1

Tiki.  The word conjures the image of a bespoke glass, that's as big as your head and filled with a mesmerizing, intoxicating, spirited beverage.  Lets not forget the adornment of an umbrella/flowers/fruit.  The mere thought whisks you away to some tropical destination.  Then you have a sip and realize your $12+ exotic cocktail consists of bottom shelf liquor, bottled fruit juice and way too much artificial sugar that's screaming your going to have a hangover tomorrow.  I am my no means a tiki expert.  But I think we can provide you with a few refreshing tiki cocktails (extravagant garnishes are optional) to help you survive the heat and mugginess of summer.

His Cocktail - Jungle Bird (via Giuseppe Gonzalez)
1 1/2 oz dark rum, preferably blackstrap rum
1 1/2 oz fresh pineapple juice
3/4 oz Campari
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz simple syrup (I personally omit)

To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients and shake until well chilled.  Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.

 

Her Cocktail - Bermuda Hundred (via Beth Dixon)
1 1/2 oz gin
1 1/2 oz fresh pineapple juice
3/4 oz Campari
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz orgeat (or less to cut the sweetness)
Brandied cherry, for garnish

To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients except cherry and shake until well chilled.  Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with a cherry.
