A simple, classic cocktail that has as many opinions on how to drink one as there are recipes for how to make one. Bottom line, it’s been a long week, it’s Friday and I simply don’t want to buy numerous ingredients and spend 20 minutes concocting a bespoke cocktail. Here’s our version of the classic.
His Ingredients
1 sugar cube (or 1tsp simple syrup - recipe below)
1 tsp water
Few dashes Angostura bitters
2 oz bourbon (Buffalo Trace)
Orange twist
Maraschino cherry (not from the ice cream isle. Spend the money and buy the nice ones, like Luxardo or Woodford Reserve)
In the bottom of a rocks glass, muddle the sugar cube with water and bitters until the sugar has dissolved. If using the simple syrup, stir with the bitters. Add your bourbon then your ice and stir until chilled. Twist your orange rind over your beverage and drop into the glass. Yield: 1 cocktail.

2 oz reposado tequila
Orange twist
